the puahou is one of the native shrubs I work with and it has five leaves. This tune really started with the clave rhythm and so I wanted something that was to do with that. I imagine the hits falling on each successive leaf in some sort of melange of fantasia, a light-up drum kit and tēnei rākau māori.
